DXIFF24: AFRICA & COLONIALISM
At Double Exposure Film Festival, the nation’s only film festival dedicated exclusively to investigative cinema, their mission is to shine a spotlight on the pressing issues that resonate globally. This year their lineup features a focus on African perspectives and colonial realities, particularly in Kenya and South Africa.
This year's Spotlight presentation is ERNEST COLE: LOST AND FOUND, directed by Raoul Peck (I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO). Winner of the L’Oeil d’Or Prize for Best Documentary at this year's Cannes Film Festival, the film draws upon a trove of unpublished images to present a powerful portrait of the South African photographer. It offers a harrowing history of Apartheid while chronicling the life of an artist forced into exile.
A stone's throw away, SEARCHING FOR AMANI intertwines Kenya's conservation efforts with the broader community struggles and conflicts. Together, these films illuminate the profound connections between art, history, and social justice in Africa.
Be there November 7-10 in Washington, D.C.
