Why is Prop 1 so important in a state like California?
When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Americans were shown that their constitutional right to privacy was subject to dangerous interpretation. The privacy rights of the American people, which covers a wide swath of our basic rights and liberties, are central to American freedom. In California, Prop 1 will explicitly add the basic right to abortion and the use of contraceptives within the state constitution. In California, only a majority of voters - not legislators - can amend the state constitution.
"Prop 1 protects the most vulnerable...As political leaders, we must do all we can to protect and advance the rights of those we represent… We can achieve this by voting YES on Prop 1.”
