What did local #PublicHealth preparedness look like in 2024? NACCHO’s latest Preparedness Profile reveals key insights about the workforce, partnerships, and the threats local health departments face. Key findings show: 1️⃣ More preparedness coordinators have 0–5 years of experience than in years past. As experienced professionals leave, strengthening onboarding and mentorship is critical. 2️⃣ Many local health departments work with Medical Reserve Corps, CERT, and the Red Cross for community preparedness, drills, and response. But nearly 1 in 5 report no involvement. 3️⃣ Local health departments report high concern about storms, opioids, and pandemics—but feel significantly less prepared to address them. The largest gap? Opioid abuse and overdose response. 4️⃣ Emergency management, hospitals, and public safety remain top collaborators for preparedness planning—but partnerships with pharmacies, businesses, and faith-based groups have steadily grown since 2015.
