Facebook Giving Tuesday
When America loses one service member, some people lose everything.
On Giving Tuesday, I choose to honor surviving families by giving to TAPS, the only organization that provides 24/7 support to the military bereaved.
Thanks to @tapsorg, the children, spouses, parents, and battle buddies of people who have made the ultimate sacrifice are not left alone to confront the complex grief that emerges when a service person dies, whether in action, by suicide, or from illness caused by toxic exposure.
This makes healing possible, even beautiful.
“Thanks to TAPS, I'm no longer a survivor; I'm a champion,” says Austin (pictured above), whose father, Army Major David Audo, died by suicide while on active duty in Iraq. “Now I get to go out into the world and encourage other survivors to champion their loss and go and make something of it.”
