Young Joseph Gartenberg (1874-1899) emigrated from Vienna to Philadelphia to marry the woman he loved, Mary Fuchs, in 1895. Son Harry inherited these eyeglasses, which his father purchased from another émigré, optician and future film pioneer Siegmund Lubin.
