Breastfeeding Equity
According to the CDC, 76% of Black infants are ever breastfed/chestfed, falling below the national average of 84%.
Additional systemic barriers Black women and birthing people face have historically led to lower breastfeeding/chestfeeding rates among this demographic.
However, peer and family networks can fill a gap in breastfeeding/chestfeeding support for Black women and birthing people and help ensure more infants are able to receive the many benefits of human milk.
