Wildfire Relief

California Wildfire Relief

Direct Relief is a longtime partner of the State of California through its Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) and always coordinates its response to wildfires with state officials. The organization's headquarters, equipment, trained staff, and various other capacities are registered with the State of California and available for public health or emergency purposes. Hurricane Relief

Direct Relief’s Hurricane Preparedness Program, established in 2006, provides 50 partner health centers in hurricane-prone areas with pre-positioned modules. Each stocked with enough materials to treat 100 patients for 72 hours, the modules help providers treat conditions ranging from trauma injuries to chronic conditions. COVID Relief

Covid-19 Relief: One-Year Report on Use of Funds and Response Activity

Direct Relief sent its first emergency shipment in response to Covid-19 to China on Jan. 27, 2020, one year ago. The next day, Jan. 28, 2020, the organization sent a wave of PPE shipments to health centers throughout the U.S.

Covid-19 Vaccination Clinic by  Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics

Recently, 100+ people were vaccinated by Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics ( @sbnc_805 ) staff & volunteers at #DirectRelief HQ. The Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics are leading vaccination efforts for their patients, many of whom are low-income, uninsured, or part of medically underserved communities. India Covid-19 Relief

On May 8, more than 3,400 oxygen concentrators, converters and nearly 265,000 KN95 masks from @DirectRelief departed via @FedEx Boeing 777 charter flight for India. More aid is planned to leave @DirectRelief, to be distributed to India and surrounding regions.

Continued India Response

As India and its surrounding regions' Covid-19 cases continue to surge, @DirectRelief has shipped thousands of oxygen concentrators, KN95 masks, and additional medications via a recent @FedEx - donated charter flight. Future shipments will continue the support of the area's Covid relief efforts.

Covid-19 India Aid

A second airlift is scheduled to depart for Delhi this weekend, packed with oxygen concentrators and other critical items from @DirectRelief. This is in addition to the first shipment of 3,400 oxygen concentrators and converters, and nearly 265,000 KN95 masks.

Haiti Earthquake 2021

In response to the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that originated 7.5 miles northeast of Saint-Louis-du-Sud, Haiti, on Aug. 14, 2021, Direct Relief coordinated with partners on the ground to determine immediate needs. More than 192 pallets-worth of medical aid from Direct Relief totaling $12.8M has arrived recently in Haiti, is en route, or is ready for deployment. Disease Prevention

In many countries where Direct Relief works, the rise of non-communicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular and respiratory disease are issues of serious public health concern.

Through collaboration, Direct Relief also equips frontline healthcare workers with the supplies they need to provide communicable disease testing, treatment, and support for people living with, or at risk of, infections such as HIV.

Direct Relief Establishes “Fund for Health Equity” with Initial $75 Million

Recently, @Direct Relief has announced the formation of its Fund for Health Equity, with anchoring investments from partner @abbvie and Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. The Fund will support Direct Relief's efforts to expand and improve healthcare services offered by health centers, clinics, and other local organizations in communities in which the effects of historic racism and socioeconomic disparities persist. Fund for Health Equity

A key aim of @DirectRelief's Fund for Health Equity over the initial five-year period is to provide financial support to community health centers and free & charitable clinics, as well as other community-based organizations and educational institutions that focus on non-clinical matters and circumstances that strongly affect a person’s health – physical environment and social, political, cultural, and economic factors – commonly known as the social determinants of health.

Fund for Health Equity

Steered by an Advisory Council with deep connections and experience in communities in which the effects of historic racism and socioeconomic disparities persist, @DirectRelief has recently announced its Fund for Health Equity.

“This effort will in no way detract from the immediate, necessary work that remains to be done as the Covid pandemic rages, but it will help shape for the better what exists when we emerge from the pandemic by providing support to those who know best what can make a difference,” said CEO Thomas Tighe.

CAF-Africa

The Covid-19 Action Fund for Africa is working to safeguard essential health services during the Covid-19 pandemic by providing PPE to up to 1 million community health workers in 20 African countries for one year. These workers provide health services to over 400 million people across Africa in communities otherwise underserved by formal health systems.

Direct Relief along with @BD and the @National Association of Community Health Centers recently honored Urban Health Plan in Bronx, New York with the “Innovations in Care” award which recognizes health centers in low-resource areas for their success in identifying and assisting vulnerable people manage complex chronic diseases. With the award, Urban Health Plan received a $200,000 grant to build upon their successful work in their Center for Health Aging clinic.
