Children Facing a Parent’s Cancer Month (CFPCM) was founded by Kesem in 2018 to raise awareness of the more than 5 million children, or 1 in every 15, facing a parent or guardian’s cancer in the United States, and is observed annually in January.
Kesem pays special attention to this community because while there are many avenues of support for people with cancer, their children do not often receive the same level of support to address their unique needs.
The month-long initiative will be comprised of a robust distribution of free educational resources for families, advocates, and professionals, in-person events across the country, and online and at-home activities for families facing a parent’s cancer, designed to drive awareness and expand reach and impact in supporting more of these children nationwide.

Over that time, more than 200,000 student leaders, volunteers, donors, and supporters have joined us in creating meaningful moments and memories in the lives of more than 60,000 children and their families nationwide.
Today, our sleepaway camp experiences, afternoon programs, and virtual meet-up offerings provide more pathways for these children and their families to create moments and memories that will last a lifetime. We continue to dream of a tomorrow where no child has to face a parent’s cancer. Until there is a cure, Kesem will be by their side, no matter what.
