Wear a life jacket if you are going into the water, getting on a boat, or going to be within 20 feet of water, even if you don’t plan to go in.
It is especially important that children wear life jackets if they are near the water.
Visit ListosCalifornia.org for more.
Even on hot & sunny days, open water can be too cold and too fast for even the best swimmers!
Teach children that swimming in the open water can be dangerous. Make sure they know about uneven surfaces, cold & fast-moving water and sunken objects that are hard to see.
If someone falls into the water, do not go into the water to try and save them. Throw them something that floats that they can hold onto, and call 9-1-1 immediately.

California had a record snowpack and heavy rainfall this past year. Now, as the snow begins to melt, it is causing rivers and other bodies of water to be colder, deeper, and faster than normal.
Take extra care around cold, fast water. Know what to do.
#ListosCalifornia
Are you spending time in or next to a river or other moving body of water? Remember that the water is more dangerous to go into than during other times of the year!
Even if you're a good swimmer, fast & cold-moving water is still risky for you.
#ListosCalifornia
Even on sunny and hot days, water can still be very cold.
If you are near water with children, watch them very closely, even if no one is swimming. Make sure that an adult is always watching them.
