Afterschool programs in Missouri are making a significant impact on both youth and the state’s future workforce. Approximately 130,000 young Missourians engage in activities ranging from STEM projects to arts and crafts, designed to enhance academic achievement and career readiness.
The Missouri AfterSchool Network (MASN) [https://moafterschool.org/] recently highlighted the importance of engaging and high-quality programming to the Missouri House Special Interim Committee on Workforce Innovation and Technology. “Youth vote with their feet,” said MASN's Natalie Hampton, emphasizing that impactful programs depend on fostering positive, hands-on experiences and meaningful interactions with peers and mentors.
A shining example of this impact is the Missouri Manufacturing Academy, a career tech prep initiative for middle school students. Through factory visits, campus experiences at Missouri University of Science & Technology, and follow-up curricula, the program inspires students to explore manufacturing careers early. Encouraged by its success, industries like healthcare and construction are now considering similar initiatives to cultivate future talent.
Learn more about MASN’s efforts to prepare youth for successful futures and how these programs shape Missouri’s workforce.
