The Pathways to Quantum: Global Industry Challenge is now underway — inviting students ages 13–18 from around the world to explore how emerging quantum technologies could help address one of humanity's greatest challenges: improving weather forecasting, strengthening climate resilience, and protecting vulnerable communities.
Hosted by Connected DMV, the Pathways Challenge introduces the next generation of innovators to quantum technology through a real-world global challenge inspired by the World Bank Group's 2025 Global Industry Challenge. Participants will research quantum technology and climate science before developing and submitting a 2–3 page paper exploring how quantum-enabled approaches could improve weather forecasting, disaster prediction, and decision-making in the face of extreme weather events. No prior quantum knowledge or technical experience is required.
Applications are open through August 30, 2026, with the application serving as both the registration and solution submission. Selected students will join a global cohort of young innovators, gain exposure to the rapidly growing field of quantum technology, and be recognized as part of an international community exploring the future of science, technology, and global resilience.
