Last weekend, more than 54,000 fans filled Mountain America Stadium to watch the Arizona State University Sun Devils take the field. Behind the scenes, the SSC team was hard at work helping keep the stadium clean and welcoming throughout the game.

Associates kept a close eye on their areas and stepped in quickly when something needed attention. As the day unfolded, the team adapted to changing needs and remained focused on creating a great experience for fans.

The team also came away with ideas for making game-day operations even better as the season continues. Saturday was a big win for ASU on the field and for the SSC team that helped make it happen.

Fernando Ramos receives Sun Award for outstanding initiative ☀️

Fernando Ramos, SSC team member at Arizona State University’s Downtown Phoenix campus, was recently recognized with a Sun Award for his attention to detail and commitment to protecting the campus.

While completing his regular duties near the fifth-floor patio at BCLS, Fernando heard what sounded like a water leak. Although there were no visible signs of an issue, he trusted his instincts and alerted ASU staff. Further investigation uncovered a broken irrigation solenoid spraying water beneath a patio paver. His quick action prevented the leak from continuing unnoticed and potentially causing significant water loss and property damage.

Fernando is the first member of the Janitorial Department to receive this recognition. His awareness, initiative and willingness to speak up reflect the strong sense of ownership and care SSC associates bring to their work each day. Congratulations, Fernando!

SSC x Winston Salem

The SSC team at Winston-Salem worked countless hours to prepare for the upcoming fall semester, demonstrating what can be accomplished through teamwork and a commitment to excellence. Whether moving furniture, refinishing floors, cleaning classrooms, or tackling other demanding projects, they worked side by side with a positive and collaborative attitude.

Their hard work did not go unnoticed, earning three Most Improved awards at Caleb’s Creek Elementary School, Kernersville Middle School, and Walkertown High School. By thinking outside the box and overcoming challenges together, they achieved remarkable results. The cleanliness of the buildings is a testament to the pride, dedication, and attention to detail each team member brings to their role.

helping students start the school year strong in Crandall

As families across Crandall ISD gathered for the district's annual Back 2 School Bash, the SSC team was proud to be part of the excitement. Unit Director Lynn Brown and Assistant Director Melvin Mathew partnered to host an SSC table at the event, welcoming students and families as they prepared for the new school year.

The team handed out SSC drawstring bags filled with school supplies to help students head back to the classroom. With more than 700 students in attendance, the event was a great opportunity to connect with the community while supporting families in a meaningful way. We're grateful to Crandall ISD for including SSC in such a special event and proud of Lynn and Melvin for representing our team while helping students begin the school year with confidence.

Cleveland City Schools Turn the Tide on Bathroom Vandalism - SSC Services For Education

What happens when a school district and custodial team partner together to stop reacting to vandalism and start preventing it?

At Cleveland City Schools, a growing challenge with restroom vandalism was creating constant disruptions, increasing costs and putting added pressure on custodial teams. Together, district leadership and SSC rethought the approach with one simple idea: consistent presence matters.

By implementing a dedicated restroom attendant model inspired by high-traffic travel centers, the district dramatically reduced vandalism-related work orders and created cleaner, safer spaces for students and staff.

Even more importantly, it gave custodial teams the ability to focus on proactive service instead of constant crisis response.

With smiles on their faces and excitement for the work ahead, the team is focused on turning over  each school with care and excellence, ensuring every building receives the SSC stamp of quality approval before students and staff return in the fall. This summer clean season is especially meaningful as SSC celebrates five years of partnership with Cleveland City Schools. Yvette Garner recognized as New Kent Middle School Support Person of the Year

Yvette Garner, Lead Custodian at New Kent Middle School, was recently recognized as the school’s Support Person of the Year. During a special surprise on April 9, Superintendent Brian Nichols, along with district and school staff, presented Yvette with flowers and heartfelt appreciation for her dedication and outstanding service.

Yvette is well known for her reliability, attention to detail, and positive attitude, She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure the school environment is clean, welcoming, and ready for students and staff alike.

Colleagues describe Yvette as a natural leader who sets the standard for excellence. She is quick to respond in urgent situations, supports and trains new team members, and often takes on additional responsibilities to keep the school running smoothly. Despite balancing significant personal responsibilities at home, her commitment never wavers.

Art Celebrates 90th Birthday at MUSD

Arthur “Art” Alcoser, a 33-year U.S. Navy veteran, celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by the community he serves every day with SSC Services for Education at Marana USD. The surprise, organized by Principal David Dooley, Associate Principal Sydnee Pierpont, and members of the school staff, brought so much joy to Art, as students sang “Happy Birthday” and shared heartfelt, handmade cards.

When asked what keeps him going, Art shared a simple but powerful mindset shaped by his time in the Navy: keep moving, stay active, and always give 100% so others can count on you.

90 years of life. A legacy of service. And a daily reminder of what it means to show up for others. Happy Birthday, Art! 🎉

Known for his strong work ethic and positive attitude, Eleuterio has become a trusted and valued presence on campus. He consistently goes above and beyond his normal duties to ensure the school runs smoothly.

Dilene Dauzat honored with the good neighbor award

Big hearts make a big difference, and Dilene Dauzat brings hers to Beebe School District every single day. As a Day Porter, Dilene plays an important role in creating a space where students feel safe, supported, and right at home. Her impact hasn’t gone unnoticed. Cereal Drive at Marana USD

The SSC team at Marana Unified School District hosted their 2nd Annual Cereal Drive this February in support of students and families across the district, and the results were truly incredible.

What started with a goal of collecting 300 boxes quickly turned into something much bigger. Thanks to the generosity of our frontline custodial teams, 700 boxes of cereal were collected, providing approximately 6,420 servings of breakfast for students and families.

This effort was led by Unit Director James Dickey, whose leadership helped rally teams across the district. What makes this moment truly meaningful is the heart behind it. Many of our team members contributed from their own pockets because they care deeply about the students and communities they serve. All donations will go to the MUSD Family Resource Center, where they will be distributed to students and families throughout the district.

When people come together with a shared purpose, incredible things happen. Because of this team, hundreds of students will start their day nourished, ready to learn, and set up for success.

Dewanna Martin honored by PVAMU

Prairie View A&M University Northwest Houston Center recently celebrated Women’s History Month with its inaugural “Honoring Our Own: Excellence in Service” event on March 31. It was an occasion dedicated to recognizing individuals whose contributions uplift their community and inspire progress. Among the honorees was SSC Facilities Director Dewanna Martin, whose story is deeply rooted in Prairie View A&M’s legacy and mission.

Born and raised in Texas, Dewanna’s connection to the university began long before her career. She grew up on campus while her mother dedicated more than three decades of service to PVAMU. That early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for higher education and Prairie View A&M.

Dewanna steadily advanced in her facilities career, starting as a custodian while pursuing higher education and eventually landing in her current role as facilities director. Her journey reflects resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to growth both personally and professionally.

As shared by Northwest Houston Center Director Kamala Williams, Dewanna continues to “pave the way for future generations of women leaders, scholars, and change makers,” making a a lasting impact that extends far beyond the campus she has long called home.
