Dive into the new NACCHO Immunization Profile Study report to understand how local health departments are building trust with their communities and expanding vaccine access. In 2023, local health departments reported operating new clinics in community settings and longer hours of operation to increase vaccine uptake. Many have also bolstered their presence in public outreach and education, increased their direct vaccination services in school and primary-care locations, and diversified partnerships. COVID-19 Immunization Activities
NACCHO just released its Immunization Profile Study report, which provides essential data on the role of local health departments in the fight against #COVID19. The study shows that administering vaccines, improving vaccine access, and addressing vaccine hesitancy required a substantial amount of resources. Key findings include:
📊 Nearly all local health departments administered COVID-19 vaccines, and they spent the most amount of staff time doing so (on average).
📊 Average local health department spending on immunization increased during the COVID-19 pandemic – more than doubling from FY2020 to FY2021 and FY2022.
📊 Three in five local health departments increased resources to underserved areas or partnered with health care providers or community leaders to increase uptake of COVID-19 vaccinations.

2023 Forces of Change Survey Report

Why amplify the Forces of Change Survey?
NACCHO's Forces of Change (FOC) Survey assesses changes in local health department capacity and activities driven by public health trends. NACCHO has conducted this survey since 2008. Initially, this survey measured the impact of the Great Recession on local health department budgets, staffing, and programs. In 2014, NACCHO expanded the survey to address broader social, political, and economic impacts.

Economic Surveillance
Check out the latest Forces of Change Survey report from NACCHO at www.naccho.org/forces. This #FOCsurvey provides essential data on how staffing and budgets have changed for local health departments nationwide. Key findings include that 17% of local health departments lost at least one staff position in 2022 – a slight increase from the 14% losing jobs in 2021 but nearing pre-pandemic reports. Showing a similar trend, 16% of local health departments reported budget cuts – relatively the same proportion as was reported in 2019 and 2020.
Community Health Workers

Key findings show that approximately half of local health departments worked with CHWs in 2023, especially to educate residents and connect them to resources. NACCHO's Forces of Change Survey report is now available! The #FOCsurvey provides crucial insights into local health department activities addressing #SDOH. In particular, the data reveal more than half of local health departments screened clients for food insecurity, interpersonal safety, and housing instability. Nearly half of local health departments reported collaborations with local government or community-based organizations related to housing, and more than half reported having these partnerships to address food security. NACCHO's most recent Forces of Change Survey report provides valuable data on local health department's #DataModernization activities. The #FOCsurvey reveals that 62% of local health departments did not receive supplemental funding for data modernization efforts between fiscal years 2020 and 2022.
