Be a part of our movement to protect our youngest and most vulnerable. Together, let's pledge to eliminate sleep related deaths and create a safer future for all babies.
August 2024-August 2025
We're joining First Year Cleveland in launching the "Babies Need to Breathe: Safe Sleep for Every Baby" campaign to increase awareness about safe sleep practices in Cuyahoga County.
Through August of 2025, we'll be sharing vital information to help protect our little ones by fostering a culture of collective responsibility and ensuring every baby has a safe and healthy start. Stay connected for educational tips, resources, and community engagement around the importance of providing a safe sleep environment to reduce the risk of sleep-related infant deaths.
In Cuyahoga County, every breath a baby takes is precious.
Be a part of our movement to protect our youngest and most vulnerable. Together, let's pledge to eliminate sleep related deaths and create a safer future for all babies.
Read our Manifesto:
In Cuyahoga County, every breath a baby takes is a testament to the preciousness of life and the unwavering commitment of our community to safeguard our future. We believe that every baby deserves a safe sleep environment—one that ensures they wake up to a world beyond their dreams.
"Babies Need to Breathe: Safe Sleep for Every Baby" is more than a campaign. It is a clarion call to action, a pledge to protect our youngest and most vulnerable. This movement unites us with a single, powerful mission: to eliminate sleep-related infant deaths through education, awareness, and community involvement.
We recognize the stark reality: Black infants in our county are disproportionately affected, with sleep-related fatalities leaving an indelible mark on families and communities. Our response must be as bold and as enduring as the legacy we wish to leave behind.
This is our promise, our passion, and our pursuit. Join us in the fight to ensure that every breath counts for every baby in Cuyahoga County.
When babies can breathe easy, so can we.

Sweet dreams start with safe sleep!
Remember the ABCDE's:
Alone: Baby should sleep alone in a crib, bassinet, or portable crib.
Back: Always place your baby on their back to sleep.
Crib: The safest place for your baby to sleep is in a crib, free from soft bedding, toys, or bumpers.
Don’t Smoke: Create a smoke-free environment by not letting anyone smoke around your baby.
Educate Everyone: Grandparents, caregivers, babysitters, and anyone who watches your baby should be familiar with the ABCDE’s of safe sleep to ensure your baby has a healthy and safe sleep wherever they are.
Let's spread awareness about safe sleep and protect our little ones!
There are risks in having your baby sleep on their stomach.
- Overheating
- Rebreathing expired air
- Too much carbon dioxide in baby’s body
- Too little oxygen in the baby’s body
- Temporary changes in heart and lung function and control
Always place your baby on their BACK to sleep, for every nap and at nighttime. On their back is the safest sleep position for all babies, including those born preterm and those with reflux, until they are 1 year old to significantly reduce infant mortality.

Every Breath Counts. Protect your Little One's Precious Lungs.
Don't smoke or vape around your baby. Keep smoke of any kind away from them. It increases their risk of colds, illnesses, and even SIDS.
Create a smoke-free home for a healthy baby and healthy future.

Did you know that breastfeeding has been shown to reduce infant mortality by over 50 percent?
This incredible benefit is due to breastfeeding's ability to improve the immune system, promote brain growth, and reduce reflux.
Let's continue to prioritize safe sleep practices and educate ourselves on how these natural reflexes play a role in keeping our little ones safe.

Did you know that babies' natural reflexes actually contribute to safer sleep?
It's true!
While it's crucial to follow the ABCDE’s of safe sleep guidelines, babies are born with instinctive behaviors that help protect them.
For example, their ability to turn their head and push away from discomfort is a natural reflex that can help prevent suffocation.
Understanding these natural reflexes can help parents and caregivers create a safer sleep environment. Let's continue to share knowledge and promote safe sleep practices for all babies.

Educate Everyone: Safe Sleep for Babies
Safe sleep is a shared responsibility. It's about parents, grandparents, caregivers, babysitters, and anyone who cares for your baby who should be well-versed in safe sleep practices.
Let's spread awareness about the ABCDE's of safe sleep:
Alone: Baby should sleep alone in a crib, bassinet, or portable crib.
Back: Baby should always be placed on their back to sleep.
Crib: Baby should sleep in a safety-approved crib, free from soft bedding.
Don't smoke: Avoid smoking or using nicotine around the baby.
Educate Everyone: Everyone who cares for the baby should know and follow safe sleep guidelines.
By working together, we can create a safer sleep environment for all babies. Let's share this information with our communities and help protect the little ones in our lives.
